Large breeds are often longer lived than their more productive smaller cousins many are exceptionally placid all need more skill in the owner to keep feather quality and good breeding conditions. Most will need deeper water for mating and grooming some cannot mate well without water by having too much keel and weight to manage much on land .Many are reluctant to breed/hatch themselves being world class experts on breaking their own eggs or simply reluctant layers some are excellent broodies. . . if in doubt allow them some eggs to hatch and incubate the others . Historically all meat breeds would be ' walked ' to market for sale so they respond well to being 'driven'. Please check you have sufficient land and knowledge with these breeds many of whom are becoming very rare in their purebred form. . . we willingly answer personal queries or simply ask via the domestic - waterfowl club website . . . . . All these breeds were used at some point in their history for meat or for crossing into modern commercial meat birds so they are of generous proportions NOT for a small garden |
