    * Medium Duck Breeds:-  Magpie

Magpies are probably the hardest breed to get right as the cap if perfect normally the bird  has a mismarked bill or extra side feathers  etc etc  . . . A placid all rounder originally from Wales. They are believed to have originated in the early 1900s, having been developed by Oliver Drake and M.C. Gower-Williams in Wales. They lay between 220–290 large green/blue eggs annually. They are a hardy variety, active foragers( a.k.a garden wreckers) , and live for approximately 9 years if not introduced to Mr Fox.

For housing  use a large dog kennel or small garden shed to house the  ducks or in with the chickens.  During the winter they need  to be protected against rain, wind, and snow . The shelter must be waterproof, predator proof and well ventilated ( goose crap is high in ammonia so small places produce quite a smell). At night ducks must be penned up being vulnerable with their quiet  and trusting nature to two and four legged predators. . . they were not named as 'sitting ducks' for nothing

For bedding  use straw, paper shreds,wood chip, wood shavings or  hay, although I do prefer hay for the nests. Recommend mucking out the  enclosure every 2-6 weeks, depending on how many  you have in the enclosure, and how big the enclosure is.
