    * Large Duck Breeds:-  Swedish

The Blue Swedish duck is a breed of domesticated duck. They  are very calm birds and make good beginner's duck. They love to free range and will go broody at some point. . . . .Tech bit:- The colour of Blue Swedish ducks is due to heterozygosity in a colour gene. If a Blue Swedish duck and drake breed, the young are the usual 25% / 50% / 25% ratio in:-
    * 25%: A homozygous form, black where the blue should be.
    * 50%: As the parents.
    * 25%: The other homozygous form, splashed or silver with combinations of blue and black and white.
The splashed or silver is not a breed ever sold as a male but the female due to her genetic make up can be bred back as in the pic above and as in all blue birds breeds the best babies . The black are for pets only as they will breed poor stock always so are NEVER sold as black swedish

For housing  use a large dog kennel or small garden shed to house the  ducks or in with the chickens.  During the winter they need  to be protected against rain, wind, and snow . The shelter must be waterproof, predator proof and well ventilated ( any crap is high in ammonia so small places produce quite a smell). At night ducks must be penned up being vulnerable with their quiet  and trusting nature to two and four legged predators. . . they were not named as 'sitting ducks' for nothing** Need deep swimming water at least 8 inches depth to keep feather quality

For bedding  use straw, paper shreds,wood chip, wood shavings or  hay, although I do prefer hay for the nests. Recommend mucking out the  enclosure every 2-6 weeks, depending on how many  you have in the enclosure, and how big the enclosure is.
